2021 Virtual Conference
Q: What happened to the in-person conference planned at the Boise Centre?
Due to the escalating incidence of COVID-19 in Boise, Idaho and throughout the US, the RRF and The Peregrine Fund decided on August 19th to change the format of the joint conference between the Raptor Research Foundation and the Neotropical Raptor Network from an in-person format to a virtual online format. The dates of the conference, the schedule, and symposia remain unchanged. Our projections of the status of the pandemic in the US and our ability to host an in-person conference did not hold up to the rise of the Delta variant this summer. The current infection surge has Boise hospitals in crisis mode with projections worsening through October when we planned to host our conference. Our conference planning team evaluated how to host this event safely from every angle and determined that our safety measures, even with vaccination and masking requirements, would not fully protect conference attendees from the risk of infection from the Delta variant of COVID-19. We recognize this decision affects many registrants’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience. We are as disappointed as you are at missing the opportunity to see presentations in person and network with others within the raptor research community.
